I don’t believe there are any guaranteed methods of preventing the disease, however, there are some things you can do to try to prevent it. Watch your weight. Eat healthily, with a balanced diet, but stick to a 2000 calorie or less diet. Watch the simple carbohydrates and simple sugars. Get tested for blood sugar periodically. Avoid high cholesterol foods. Try baking your meat rather than frying it. Same with your starchy foods like potatoes.
Avoid drinking a lot of sugary soda pop. Drink mostly water. Fruit juices are good, but only in small amounts.
Watch your blood pressure and have kidney function tests taken periodically. Your doctor can give you more specific precautions to take. If you have diabetes in the family, pay special attention to your skin and feet.
Basically, just take care of yourself and get exercise and avoid junk food. That should help.

If you have a genetic predispostition for type two, you might want to watch your diet, exercise regularly, keep your weight down, and read the information I’ve posted here:

If you take care of yourself now as if your were diabetic, I can just about guarantee you will never get it.

It depends on the type of diabetes. If you mean type 2, the kind that is onset later in life, the single best prevention for that is to keep your weight in a healthy range. Eat healthy and get plenty of exercise. More info here:

it depends on the type of diabetes you have; that is if it is a type 1( insulin dependent)or 2( non-insulin dependent). for type 1 it his hereditary, so if you know it runs in your family, take precautions like eating healthy and exercising, decrease the sugar and salt intake and most important take your injection on time. For type 2 the same except for the injections, keep healthy and don’t become weight.

Type 1 diabetes CANNOT be prevented by healthy eating, maintaining a healthy weight, or exercise. We cannot prevent it in any way. It is an autoimmune disease and not caused by lifestyle. There is nothing you can do to stop it, and it is not your fault if you get it.
Type 2, the common form of the disease, IS lifestyle related, and is linked to obesity, lack of exercise, and poor diet in most cases.
